It's My Blogaversary!!

Wow, it's really been a year since I posted my first blog post!

I posted my first blog post on July 28th, 2017. I remember posting like it was yesterday. I was soooo nervous! Stomach in knots..pacing back & forth. But I couldn't let that stop me. The feedback that I have gotten over the past year has been so rewarding. People actually look to me for advice now! Like me!? Really!? Seriously!? lol

Thank you to Chris Palmer of Christopher Palmer Photography for all the beautiful pictures!

Things didn't stop there. Keeping with the spirit of Nascent (to come in to existence as to display signs of future potential), as of June 30, 2017, Nascent by Nae is not only a blog but registered with the state of Louisiana as a limited liability company. So now, not only am I a blogger but a business owner too! When I started Nascent last year I knew my vision superseded just this, but I didn't expect certain things to happen this soon. I've found that when you take that first step, set your intention, follow your gut, & have faith things tend to work out more than you could have ever imagined.

"Ooooh you have a good D. J."- my dad. lol. Big shoutout to DJ Kicks for coming through! He was great..hit him up!!

To commemorate these milestones I decide to throw a party! (Anybody that knows me knows that I love a good party lol) I invited a few friends & supporters & we had a blast! The response was so great that I think I may make this an annual event.

If you've seen the movie Girls Trip then you know about the Flossy Posse. & if you haven't then you're seriously missing out & should go see it ASAP. But anyways this is my Flossy Posse hailing from McKinley Middle Magnet School! This event wouldn't have been possible without them & I thank them for supporting me & encouraging me throughout this journey. They all have their own endeavors & I'm so proud. I guess McKinley Middle did right by us. lol.

At the event I was able to debut my new logo & my Nascent by Nae shirt for females. If you want one just click here. They're only $15!

Where I get my cuteness from. lol. Thanks soooo much mommy for all your support & know giving me birth & whatnot. lol.

In my last blog post I gave you all three cons to blogging. To reflect on this past year & let you know why I continue despite those things, I'll give you SIX pros to blogging.

  • I create for myself what others may deny me

I am my own writer, editor, model, stylist, creative director, etc. I get to be it all & don't have to choose just one "job title." I would love to do these things for big companies & household names, but may lack the experience or height requirement. lol. Instead of waiting for someone to give me the opportunity to showcase my talents broadly, I created my own opportunity.

I meet some great people

Having a blog is a great networking tool. I've always been down with meeting new people & if you know me you know I don't have any problem speaking to complete strangers. lol. But blogging opens me up to another realm of people. It's great to know people but it's even better knowing people in great places & spaces that can really do something for you. & no that's not necessarily using a person for your own selfish gain. At this day & age everybody is trying to get ahead & pursue our dreams. We don't have time to waste on meaningless relationships. Some of what I have gotten from people is just great advice & conversation; not necessarily material gain. This in turn inspires me & continues to propel my blogging.

  • Free Access!

Sooo maybe I get more than just great advice & conversation from those great people I meet. lol. Like the time I got front row seats & early access to Charlotte Fashion Week only to find out that those seats were $125+. Being a blogger gives you an in. Now don't go calling yourself a blogger just to get into events for free. The thing is great people value other great people. The people I meet that invite me to events value what I do & there is a mutual respect.

  • I get to help people

I don't always have the time or money to help people how I would like. Having a blog gives me a means to still do want I can. I was very grateful to sit down & help another young lady with some of the things that I have learned through blogging. & she's launched her own!

A lot of my followers gain peace knowing that someone is feeling the same way they do or have. This is so helpful in a world that sometimes promotes isolation over congregation & collaboration.

I also give awareness & a voice to brands & events.

  • I can write however I want & nobody can tell me anything!

Ok this is childish but one of my favorites. lol. I loooovvveeeee that I can type how I want & nobody can tell me a thing! HA HA HA HA you English teachers!!! Like did you see I gave "lol" it's own "sentence?" Did you see all those letters in love?

I won't get too ratchet with my grammar, it's just such a feeling of freedom. lol. As long as y'all (you see that) understand me that's all that matters:)

  • Nascent has giving me the platform to start my boutique!

Yep..you read that right!!! Not only will I be providing you with fashion tips but actual fashion! lol I'm soooo excited to share this journey with you all first. Like I said earlier, something like this was so far off in my mind. Like I've always wanted a boutique & knew I was capable but idk I just thought it was something I'd do in my thirties or something. lol. But things just kept moving along & the opportunity presented itself so here it. Check it out & let me know what you think!

So there you have it! That's my past year as a blogger. My heart is so full & I'm so excited about all that's ahead. Please let me know what you all think & thanks for reading!!

Thank you again to everybody that came out & of course a big thanks to the Be Captured booth! You all have to book them for your next event!
